My work sits in the boundaries between abstraction and figuration, referencing the European tradition of landscape painting, Expressionism and abstract image making, both ancient and contemporary. These paintings are influenced by my experiences, but the subject matter is always ambiguous. Using a wide range of materials and working methods enables me to play with gesture and mark making whilst also allowing chance for the image to sometimes create itself. It is this that drives the work. For me, the physical process of painting is always an act of discovery.
